Compiled by NCsoft to be a quick release from the grind of other standard MMOGs, Dungeon Runners is a game that takes the seriousness of the fantasy genre and puts a lighter spin on things. Free to download and play, Dungeon Runners can be described as a hilarious romp through a world that takes itself very lightly. In the Ten Ton Hammer review of DR, Micajah states, "I always wanted a Hazy Cardboard Warhammer of the Exercising Hog!" This is a fairly common description for most in-game items in DR.
On top of that, Dungeon Runners is free to download and play. Players can journey through the entire game, but they are at a serious disadvantage when it comes to loot and items - many items in the game are for subscribers only. Thankfully, the membership fee is only $4.99, which makes it more than reasonable to play.
Finally, Dungeon Runners - unlike many free-to-play games, continues to grow and evolve. With such a light-hearted atmosphere, the game is fairly simple to construct new areas for and the developers are constantly updating the game with new content.
NCsoft announced in September that Dungeon Runners will be shutting down on January 1st, 2010. The company cites an inability for the game to be profitable for its demise. The entire announcement from Stephen Nichols can be read here.
