We all have them – the MMOG mechanics that drive us bonkers each time we see them crop up again in a newly released title. The things that leave us scratching our head and wondering if the industry has progressed at all over the years in spite of all the fancy new graphics and vaunted voice acting. Since Halloween is universally known as a time of sharing, Reuben “Sardu” Waters takes a look at a few of the MMOG mechanics that haunt him in the wee hours of the night today in Loading… Less Tricks, More Treats!

With you on the torchlight thing! (though people should nab the demo, as some people seem to not like it for some reason...)

The only one on your list I am against would be the Runners. I agree it would be cool if they didn't all have the exact same AI (at 10% I will run), but I do think it is kinda nice as it does force you to stay on your toes a bit. Admitedly, it also means that any character should be able to DEAL with runners (root/snare/taunt/ranged dmg).

Respawns

Well how about working your way through a mob of baddies, you are kicking major rearends, when low and behold several respawn to your rear. Now you are surrounded and all you can do is bend over, kiss your ass goodby.

Well, that fugly dwarf has to keep moving to work off all the trash everyone feeds her.




Worst game mechanic to me I suppose is the summary of quest info and the marking of quest object on the map{sparklies}. Stop doing this and it'll make quite a few more players slow down and read the text, and...
