So there you are. Just made up your character and he/she looks cool. DAMN cool. You can't wait to get out there and play and level up! Oddly enough though, you start to find that the game gets boring for some reason. You log in and you're all alone, soloing or putting up with cheesy pick up groups just to get into some of the higher end content. You thought there would be more to Warhammer Online than just questing, ganking, and getting loot. This is where guilds come in. Guilds have many functions in MMOG's. They're a way to see higher level content. They're a means to get a chance at gear that you may not have ever seen othrwise. Most importantly, a good guild will become your online family. Full of friends you can't wait to jump online with and tackle the challenges of your game of choice.
We here at Ten Ton Hammer realize the importance of guilds in the world of MMOG's. That's why we're featuring a different Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning guild each month to give you a chance to get to know the different guilds of WAR and possibly help you find a group of like minded folks to make your gaming experience that much better.
This month, we introduce a Destruction guild that's been around for many a moon. With this much experience under their belt, we're sure they'll be a guild to be reckoned with, KAOS
What kind of guild is KAOS and what are they all about?
KAOS is an ever-changing guild that never really changes. What I mean by that, is that we are constantly evolving to the gaming world around us, but we keep the same basic ideas in place.
In 10+ years of pc gaming, things have changed for us many times. We have went from Starcraft to Diablo to Warcraft 3 to DAoC to Counter-Strike:Source to WoW and now looking forward to WAR. Of course there was many other games in between, but with each game we got into, we always tried something just a little different and have thus grown as a guild because of it.
We stick to the same basics, no matter what game we play.
LOYALTY - KAOS always puts guild mates first. Guild mates come over loot, content, and personal gains. KAOS doesn't believe that KAOS own gaming experiences should suffer to help someone else's be better, but KAOS does believe that some things are replaceable and we prefer those things not to be guild mates. Thats just the way KAOS does it. If someone can't get with that, then KAOS is probably not the best guild for them.
HONOR - KAOS has always believed that KAOS should follow the path of what is most enjoyable, not necessarily the quickest path to "be the best." Don't get KAOS wrong, we will always strive to be the best, but KAOS will not do it in a manner that would be considered cheating, using exploits/hacks, or otherwise underhanded measures.
PRIDE - KAOS takes great pride in itself. Wearing the KAOS tag makes KAOS members feel more empowered. KAOS will always strive to be better. KAOS will never settle for first place loser.
What other games have you been involved in and what sort of success have you seen in those games? What are the goals of KAOS in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning?
Starcraft - This is the game that KAOS started in. :-:KAOS:-: enjoyed huge success on U.S.West as the dominate warring guild in pre-hammer controlled channels. :-:KAOS:-: estimates that no less than 50 guilds fell to the hands of :-:KAOS:-: over the course of several years on B.net. So began KAOS legacy.
DIABLO/WARCRAFT 3 - As KAOS were active in these games on B.net as well, they never quite reached the success or were able to take KAOS member base away from Starcraft. Nevertheless, KAOS had many Diablo "experts" and several high ranking ladder teams upon the initial release of Warcraft 3.
DAoC - KAOS reached out to a whole other player base in KAOS first MMORPG. To make a long story short, Kaos Crusaders rose to power as Albs on Merlin and became leaders of the largest Alliance (to my knowledge) in the history of the game. At it's peak, the Kaos Crusaders Alliance had 20 guilds in it and over 1800 members. The Kaos Crusaders guild itself had 350 members. Keep sieges and Relic raids were a thing of regularity. This game had KAOS really hyped for WoW due to its PvP/RvR system.
Counter-Strike:Source - This was not KAOS first venture into Steam games. |KaOs| played Counter-Strike 1.6, TFC, and DoD. None of them however matched the success |KaOs| had in CS:S. |KaOs| maintained a 50 man server for about a year in CS:S and in that game KAOS made many new friends. |KaOs| did not officially participate in Cal as a guild, but |KaOs| did have a team of all |KaOs| members that did.
WoW - KAOS had 3 runs in WoW. Initially <KAOS> started as Alliance on Stormreaver, and quickly grew to become one of the largest guilds on the server. <KAOS> started on day 1 and (I think) because of the rapid growth and lack of content (pre-MC), the guild began to fade. <KAOS> learned quickly what the meaning of a "Loot Whore" was, and <KAOS> eventually disbanded the guild. <Kaos> came back with the news of TBC as Alliance on Anetheron and once again, grew to become one of the largest guilds on the server. <Kaos> had initial success with Kara and had it on farm within 3 months of release, however the demanding schedule of raiding 25 man content (Gruuls, Mag, SSC) and once again "Loot Whores" lead to the eventual disbanding of the guild. A final return to Stormreaver, though successful, marked the end of <KAOS> run in WoW, mainly for the same reasons KAOS had stopped the first 2 times.
The goals of KAOS in WAR are simple. To be the most effective killing machine that KAOS can be. Maintaining KAOS keep claim is going to be far higher on KAOS priority scale then what PvE boss have KAOS killed lately. KAOS will spend time on PvE when it is appropriate, but RvR/PvP is going to be KAOS main focus as a guild. KAOS will dominate our server with the help of Tzeentch! (All Destruction races are accepted in KAOS)
What sort of time commitment are you looking for from members per week? Are there level requirements or restrictions for members?
KAOS has a minimum once a week log in to avoid being removed from the guild. Of course thee are exceptions, any member can request a Leave of Absence on KAOS member forums.
There are not particular level requirements or restrictions, only for that which is appropriate for the Squad which they are applying for. KAOS ranking system is such that players interested in joining must be accepted by one of the Squad leaders(Captains).
KAOS Squads are intended to be fully functioning groups on their own right. Captains will recruit for their Squad based on class need, appropriate level, and activity. Too many of one class will not help. Too far away from the rest of the Squad in level will not help. Not active enough will not help.
The recruiting process will fall directly on the Captain's shoulders. They will recruit depending on these parameters. Currently KAOS has Squads that will have active play times at all times of the day and night...essentially KAOS will be a 24/7 operation.
What level of importance do you place on the social aspect of your guild? Is KAOS all about the end goal or more about the people involved?
Heh. I think I may have touched base on this one already. KAOS puts more value in its members then it does in the end result. If you would have asked me that pre-WoW, you may have gotten a different answer.
If KAOS has learned anything from its experience in WoW, people > loot and content. Obviously not all people feel this way, but that is why KAOS tries to recruit the best quality player KAOS can.
If KAOS can't acheive the desired end result with the people we have, then KAOS just needs to put forth more effort to attempt and achieve it.
If someone wanted to join your guild, what would be the best way to do so? Who should they get in contact with? Do they need to be a part of the Warhammer Online Beta test to apply or can they apply prior to release?
KAOS is currently accepting all applications. The best thing to do is register on KAOS forums (http://kaos.clanservers.com) and post an ap following the provided sample template.
Take a look at the different Squads and what their needs are, when their primary play time is, and if any of them fit your needs. Chances are, any new recruits at this point will get offers from several of KAOS Captains to join their Squads.
Beta access is not required, but many of KAOS members have pre-ordered the Collector's Edition and will be playing in Open Beta, so it is preferred.
Looking forward to WAR dominance and hoping KAOS can provide an atmosphere that players of similar interest would like to take a part in!
