Ten Ton Hammer's Tailoring Guide

Tailoring 1 - 375 Leveling Guide

We present for your reading pleasure a guide on the best way to “power” skill to 350 or 375 for the Tailoring profession in World of Warcraft. We’ve gone and found the cheapest items to create that don’t require super expensive recipes. As a matter of a fact, outside of the Outland recipes and Runecloth Bags all of the recipes can be obtained from the trainer!

Before you embark on getting Tailoring to 350 or 375 you’ll need to get a few things first. You’ll need between 250 and 350 gold (depending on your market) to get Tailoring to 300. After that you’ll need between 1,000 and 2,000 gold to get it to 375 (once again heavily depending on your market) if you buy most of your cloth (you’ll only need a few hundred gold if you farm ALL of the cloth yourself). You’ll need about 150 Linen, 150 Wool, 800 Silk, 375 Mageweave, 750 Runecloth and about 3,000 (!!) Netherweave. If you’re near the Auction House then you can pretty much figure out how much you’ll need to spend.

It may be a wise idea if you’re level 70 to farm instances like Deadmines for Wool and Scarlet Monastery for Silk then farm your own Netherweave to save on the very expensive costs.

1-50

Bolt of Linen Cloth

2x Linen Cloth

Bolts are always the cheapest items to create. The Bolt of Linen Cloth will also be required for upcoming items and therefore is the most efficent path from 1 to 50. If you start failing at around 45 to 50 you can create Linen Belts (1x Bolt of Linen Cloth and 1x Coarse Thread) or Brown Linen Shirts (same). Heavy Linen Gloves (requiring a skill of 35) are also very good.

50-60

Heavy Linen Gloves

1x Bolt of Linen Cloth
1x Coarse Thread

OR

Linen Bag

3x Bolt of Linen Cloth
3x Coarse Thread

You've got two choices. Once is the Heavy Linen Gloves which you learn at a skill of 35 and are about yellow at 50 (or turning green). They're VERY cheap and you can make three of them to one Linen Bag.

However, if you have a ton of Linen Cloth and want to go through 50 to 60 as fast as possible then make the Linen Bags. They remain orange until 70 and 75 is the next bolt. So your choice.

60-65

Red Linen Shirt

2x Bolt of Linen Cloth
1x Red Dye
1x Coarse Thread

OR

Linen Bag

3x Bolt of Linen Cloth
3x Coarse Thread

You can create Red Linen Shirts (or Blue, whichever you prefer - although if on a serious budget only buy one of the recipes). They turn yellow at 65 so they remain pretty good until then.
65-75

Reinforced Linen Cape

2x Bolt of Linen Cloth
3x Coarse Thread

OR

Linen Bag

3x Bolt of Linen Cloth
3x Coarse Thread

Same debate. If you're saving cloth go with the Reinforced Linen Cape. If not just keep making the Linen bags with all of the bolts you made to get to 50 skill.
75-105

Bolt of Woolen Cloth

3x Woolen Cloth

You're going to need A LOT of woolen cloth (well, a lot of cloth for anything) so creating bolts until they grey out is in no way a bad idea. Between 100 and 105 if you're having any trouble getting skill gains and have a ton of woolen bolts then make a Gray Woolen Shirt (2x Bolt of Woolen Cloth, 1x Fine Thread, 1x Grey Dye). You can also make Woolen Capes (5x Bolt of Woolen Cloth and 5x Fine Thread) but I don't see why you would want to.
105-115

Gray Woolen Shirt

2x Bolt of Woolen Cloth
1x Fine Thread
1x Grey Dye

There really isn't anything better to be honest aroiund these levels.
115-125

Double-stitched Woolen Shoulders

3x Bolt of Woolen Cloth
2x Fine Thread

Looking at the alternatives, you could probably get away with making Red Woolen Bags or Stylish Red Shirts although they're barely more expensive. Double-stitched Woolen Shoulders are the best for this area.

125-145

Bolt of Silk Cloth

4x Silk Cloth

You're going to need more then 150 silk bolts to get past silk so... just make them and make them and make them. They go grey at 145 but you may want to keep on going just so that you won't have to fool with them. Make about 150 to 175 then see what you need after that.
145-160

Azure Silk Hood

1x Bolt of Silk Cloth
2x Blue Dye
1x Fine Thread

I'm suprised, to be honest that this is still one of the best things to make for leveling up. Back when WoW first came out and my friend was doing Tailoring he made these and gave me one. If that isn't reasoning I don't know what is.

Got spare leather? At 150 you can make Small Silk Packs which actually sell on the Auction House (not all the time though). That's a risky option (since they're more expensive to make) that might make you some money back.

160-170

Silk Headband

3x Bolt of Silk Cloth
2x Fine Thread

Here is a kind of area that's just meh. You can make Dark Silk Shirts (which are very popular and might sell kinda on the Auction House) for just a little bit more (they require 2x silk bolts, 2x gray dye, and 1x fine thread). Up to you though.
170-175

Formal White Shirt

3x Bolt of Silk Cloth
2x Bleach
1x Fine Thread

Starting to get expensive at this point. Nothing better for these five levels.
175-185

Bolt of Mageweave

5x Mageweave Cloth

You get a total of ten levels out of the Mageweave Bolts!!! Ahhhhhhh. You're going to need over 80 of these so meh I guess kind of like 10 free points.
185-210

Crimson Silk Vest

4x Bolt of Silk Cloth
2x Red Dye
2x Fine Thread

Can't argue the price or location of this recipe. You can also make Black Silk Packs if you want and have a extra silk. They sell decently well on the Auction House, but not worth the extra investment or time if you don't want to bother with it.

You'll be making these until 210, however be sure to train for Artisan at 200!!

Artisan Tailor

210-215

Crimson Silk Pantaloons

4x Bolt of Silk Cloth
2x Red Dye
2x Silken Thread

Silk cloth this high up?! Why, yes, thank you for these five inexpensive points compared to Mageweave.
215-225

Orange Mageweave Shirt

1x Bolt of Mageweave
1x Orange Dye
1x Heavy Silken Thread

Ten points, one bolt... why yes. Thank you again for these inexpensive points! You are not in Mageweave for long so this area is VERY good.

You can also make White Bandit Masks which is a droped recipe or a Red Mageweave Vest and some Red Mageweave pants for yourself if you're a caster.

225-235

Black Mageweave Gloves

2x Bolt of Mageweave
2x Heavy Silken Thread

At 225 you can start making Mageweave Bags and if you want to fool with the Auction House I suggest you do it. They might not sell, but if they do you'll be able to make back a little bit of the money you spent.

Outside of that, 2 bolts and 2 threads. What's not to like?

235-250

Black Mageweave Shoulders

3x Bolt of Mageweave
2x Heavy Silken Thread

OR

Black Mageweave Headband

3x Bolt of Mageweave
2x Heavy Silken Thread

Either or work since they require the same amount of items. Since they're so cheap and everything else requires so much more. Fifteen points later you'll be at Runecloth or also known as "man this is getting expensive".
250-260

Bolt of Runecloth

5x Runecloth

Make these until you get to 260. Make more too, you'll probably need over 100.
260-275

Runecloth Belt

3x Bolt of Runecloth
1x Rune Thread

Not bad, but you can also make Runecloth Bags which cost more (a lot more) but also sell decently well. You can also make Mooncloth at this level which makes some money (not as much as it used too since TBC made it kind of useless).

You can make these until 280 (Runecloth Gloves) if you want to.

Master Tailor

275-280

Runecloth Bags

5x Bolt of Runecloth
2x Rugged Leather
1x Rune Thread

Might as well make bags for yourself or to sell.

Recipe sold is Winterspring.

280-300

Runecloth Gloves

4x Bolt of Runelcoth
2x Rugged Leather
1x Rune Thread

You'll be starting on Netherweave soon, so just make gloves until 300.

The Burning Crusade

At this point things are going to get expensive. You may have spent about 200 gold getting here. From here own expect to spend 1000-2000 gold to get to 375 unless you farm a lot of the cloth yourself.

300-325

Bolt of Netherweave

6x Neatherweave Cloth

Might as well save as much money as possible.
325-340

Bolt of Imbued Neatherweave

3x Bolt of Netherweave
2x Arcane Dust

Fifteen points for an item you'll be using in a few things anyway, not a bad deal. Don't bother if you're taking Tailoring only to 350.

Recipe sold in Shattrath City/Exodar/Silvermoon City.

335-345

Neatherweave Boots

6x Bolt of Neatherweave
2x Knothide Leather
1x Rune Thread

Expensive.

Recipe sold in Shattrath City/Exodar/Silvermoon City.

345-360

Netherweave Tunic

8x Bolt of Netherweave
2x Rune Thread

At 350 you can make spellthread if you buy the recipe from either the Aldors or Scryers which can make you money and save yourself some trouble.

If all you want from Tailoring is Primal Mooncloth (which can also be used past 350 for a free point) and Spellcloth then just stop here. Go onward if you want to make the caster three piece set.

Recipe sold in Shattrath City/Exodar/Silvermoon City.

360-374 (or 375)

Imbued Netherweave Robe or Imbued Neatherweave Tunic

6x Bolt of Imbued Netherweave
2x Netherweb Spider Silk
1x Rune Thread

EXPENSIVE. Each of these cost like 13 gold to create. If you're making the super special caster gear then make the third piece at 374 which is still orange and gets you to 375.

Recipe bought from the Scryers in Shattrath City. A friend CAN buy it for you if you're Aldor.
